John 15:8 “This is to my Fathers Glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

Evidence of the Holy Spirit’s activity in our lives is the production of fruit.  Fruit listed in Galatians and 1 Peter, as well as good works prepared for us to do, being a praying nation.  We are to be attractive to the lost, by the fruit displayed in our lives.  The purpose of the living water flowing through us, and abiding in the Lord, is so that we bear much fruit.  As we are filled with the Holy Spirit, infilling, the out-flowing of the Spirit is in the fruit that is available to the nations, for the benefit of the nations.  When we abide in the Lord, power to bear fruit flows through us, its source is in Jesus.

Spring Up a Well

We need to be more sensitive and in tune with the Holy Spirit, so that we can say : ”Speak Lord, your servant is listening.”  This year explores the person and function of the Holy Spirit, how to listen more effectively to His guidance and understanding what the bible teaches about the Holy Spirit.  We pray: Spring up a well within my soul.

2017 Love Light Life

I love you, LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock, my fortress
and my deliverer; my God is my rock,
in whom I take refuge, my shield and
the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I called to the LORD, who is worthy
of praise, and I have been saved
from my enemies.
Psalm 18:1-3

The Lord is Love, He is the Light of the World and He gives Life

2016 Stronger Together

When believers encourage one another and work together – we are stronger together

Isaiah 32:2
Each woman will be like a shelter from the wind,
A refuge from the storm,
Like streams of water in the desert
And the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.

2015 Tell it to my Soul

Eph 4:12-13

… to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Remind me again Lord what it is that I believe. Test me Lord: Do I have a growing awareness of Your presence and power in my life? Am I actively growing in my relationship and becoming closer and more intimate with You?

 2014 Thy Kingdom Come

1 Thes 2:11 “For you know that we dealt with each of you as a mother deals with her own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into His Kingdom and glory.”

The Lord taught us to pray: “Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done.” We are praying for the establishment of God’s Kingdom on earth. We are members of that Kingdom. What does Kingdom living look like? How do we live as citizens of heaven on earth?

Cedars prepared and presented a Testimony workshop and also did a workshop on Spiritual Armour. A study on Ephesians 6.

2013 Oh Lord, make me stronger.

Verse: 2 Chron 16:9 “For the eyes of the Lord range throught the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are committed to Him.”

Being strengthened in the Lord through study of scripture – Knowing our bibles and the women in the bible.

“When we are in the presence of the Lord, growing in our relationship with Him, there is always a time when we are looking at our lives before Him.  His Spirit gently disciplines and guides us, showing us areas of our lives that need to be strengthened.  The Lord longs to strengthen those women whose hearts are committed to Him, join us this year as we pray; “Oh Lord, make me stronger.”

2012 Who is She?

Knowing that God has put every one of us on earth for “such a time as this” in history, our prayer this year is:  Ps 90:12 “Oh Lord, teach us to number our days, that we may present You with a heart of wisdom.”  To do this we examines what does a woman who lives out God’s purposes for her life look like? Who is She?  What role does she play in the world?  What is her purpose?  What characterises her and motivates her?

Themes included: She is Like, She is Woman, She Seeks Wisdom, She has Gifts, She has an enemy, She Prays and Worships, She Thinks About, She Works, She Rests.

Cedars prepared and presented a workshop based on the Book of Esther called “For Such a Time as this.”  Aiming the endeavour at young women under the banner of “Queen Street” it ended up impacting young and old in their relationship with the Lord.

2011 All you need is love – A journey in the most excellent way

1 Cor 12:31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.  And yet I will show you the most excellent way. [ Love Is Indispensable]Luke 10:27  He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ ; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

Three journeys occupy our spiritual walk, the UPWARD journey in our relationship with the Lord, the INWARD journey in our relationship with ourselves and the OUTWARD journey in our relationships with others.  In all these journeys: All we need is love, for LOVE is the most excellent way.

Theme nights: Love – the most excellent way; You don’t bring me flowers anymore (the breaking down and rebuilding of love); When our Miracles don’t come; The battle on 3 fronts;  When the going gets tough (the Joy of the Lord is our strength); Into-me-see (Intimacy with God): If you love me(Obedience); You don’t scare me (Perfect Love drives out all fear); Change Me First; For such a time as this (Study on life of Esther).

Cedars moved to current venue of a large Conference Centre that enabled the groups to spread out for group time.

This year we facilitated a small workshop for woman in ministry, including a vision for influencing woman, personal and group mentorship as a strategy for ministry, guidelines for getting involved in community work.

2010 Let Your Light Shine

Matt 5:14-16  Let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven.  In this year we addressed the responsibility of all believers to let their light shine in the world, in everyday life, being likened unto a city on the hill, a light in the world, the salt that is salty.  Living a life of focus and purpose in order to draw others to the Light that is in you.Theme nights were: Princess of Light, Light of the World, The Word is Light, Available to the Light, Growing your Light, Being the Light, Representing the Light, Maturing the Light, Defending the Light and Celebration of Light.

Girls attending Cedars involved in ministry, shared about the work being done and Cedars was able to contribute to the work being done.

Our first Testimony workshop was held.

Regular training of Prayer Group Leaders was set up.

2009 Victory

VICTORY – i.e. victory in all circumstances. We examined aspects of Christian walk and life that were stumbling blocks to personal and spiritual victory in difficult life circumstances.  Emphasis was placed on thought patterns and attitudes in order to be “more than a conquerors” in all circumstances.  Romans 8:28-39 underlines most of the teaching for the year.  The call to the ladies was based on Phil3:13-14.13Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me

Cedars moved to Half Time Community Coffee Shop in Edenvale, which would be its home for two years.  Focus this year was on the development of prayer group leaders to facilitate small group mentorship.  The goal being to have the lesson of the evening discussed in smaller groups and to pray together.

2008 Sisters – Relationship Attitudes

Taking from 2 Peter 1:3-10 (Emphasis added)For this reason……because the nature of Christ resides in us through our knowledge of him and his promises……. this is our responsibility:

Make every effort to add (it does not come naturally)to your faith……. relationship builders ie. Goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, love.

“For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The focus this year was building relationships, particularly looking at attitudes that foster good relationships.

With a leadership change, Cedars clearly identified it’s goal to mentor and grow woman in their spiritual walk.  By the end of the year a new venue was needed.

Focus this year was developing regular prayer and fellowship between woman as part of the evening.

2007 Fruits of the Spirit

We are called to bear much fruit in reliance to the Holy Spirit.  This year was an exploration of what spiritual fruit looked like, why it was important to be fruitful, what an opposite (bad) fruit would look, how we could change ourselves and our thinking to start producing fruit in our lives.

Continuing to host Cedars in our homes, our numbers grew to 15 and we started providing notes to our material so that ladies could work through the material in their own time.

2006 A wise woman builds her house.

This year explored the many roles that a woman plays: as woman, wife, mother, daughter, wider family member, community member, church member and God’s daughter.Starting with just two woman, attendance to Cedars was hosted in private homes, by special invitation to woman in our circle of influence.
