Bible Study 3: Get ready to do God’s work
What is the primary role of the Church on the earth today? In Matt 28:16-20 Jesus gives the Great Commission. Write it down in your own words.
Within the scope of the Great Commission, there are other roles the Church has to fulfil in the earth today in order for God’s will to be done. Some of these roles are worship, gathering of the saints, spiritual disciplines (Bible study and prayer), discipleship (teaching them), fellowship, service (physical ministry like feeding the poor etc) evangelism.
The Lockdown restrictions have made many of these roles difficult to execute. The Church does have to function however and there is much work to be done in spite of the ‘new normal’. Consider these roles of the Church in conjunction with your gifts and talents and ask Holy Spirit what you can do right now in your direct sphere of influence to be His hands and feet – His voice. What are the ways that He could work through YOU to penetrate the spiritual darkness that surround people in your direct circle?
Read 2 Cor 5: 14 + 20; 1 Pet 3:15; 2 Tim 2:15; Eph 2:10
It is clear that each member of the Body of Christ has an assignment. Each one of us has work to do.
Make a list of the people in your circle of influence. Family, extended family, friends, acquaintances, employees, colleagues, other parents, teachers etc. Ask yourself the following questions about the names on that list:
- Is this person saved?
- Am I perhaps the only link to Jesus and His Kingdom for this person?
- Is there even one thing that God wants me to do for this person?
- Are there any physical needs that this person has that I can help with? This could be a means to sharing the Gospel as well.
Holy Father, we thank You for sending Your only begotten Son to die for us and reconcile us to You. We pray that You fill us with Your Spirit so that we would be empowered to be Your witnesses in the earth today. Fill us with courage and boldness to share the good news of Jesus. Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever. Amen
